Many stores are starting to employ high-tech software to track their customers' shopping patterns--things like mannequins with facial recognition software, and motion sensors to see which products customers pick up off the shelves. The retailers say that they're not doing anything that's too invasive; they just have to step up efforts to compete against online stores and this is the best new way to do that.

Of course, many people feel that this technology is an invasion of privacy. The software is called Shopperception, and the biggest purchaser so far is Walmart.
